GRANNY SONGS
Hi, dear Granny Fans!
The Santa Cruz WILPF Raging Grannies have been belting out their indignation, wrath, and determination to protest injustice and violence, wherever such things rear their ugly heads, since 2003, when we started meeting and singing political parodies to old tunes. Most of the words have been written by Jan Harwood, with help and suggestions from the rest of the musical gaggle, and some received from RG groups around the nation and in Canada. We present here some of our favorites, which we have sung at rallies and meetings, coffeehouses and courthouses, city councils and street corners.
We are available for any public gathering that promotes a WILPF issue, from war to health care, and you can reach us by calling Jan at (831)471-9992.

When We're Ninety-Four
“When I'm Sixty-four" by The Beatles
When we get older, losing our minds,
Many years from now,
We will still be raging in our flow'ry hats
At Democans and Republicrats.
Where there's injustice, where there is greed
Where there's waste and war
You better heed us, You will still need us
When were ninety-FOUR
We have seen it all
We've watched dictators rise to power
Watched their righteous fall!
Fountains of wisdom, hearts full of love
Dear old Grannies rule;
We remember when our country was our pride
Ideals for which our foremothers died.
We're on the net, our iphones are hot!
Grannies know the score!
You better heed us, You're gonna need us
When we're ninety-four.
We're not afraid of going to jail--
We've been there, done that.
Some of us have records long as War & Peace
We're best friends with the local police.
Some of us die, but others come in
The Granny Justice Corps.
You better heed us, You will still need us
When we're ninety-four.
We don't sit and cry
Life's not fair till we make it so--
We go out and try!
Grannies are kindly, gentle and frail
Till you get us riled
Marching in our walkers and our wheely-chairs,
We're as fierce as Grizz-ely bears!
Well kiss the boo-boos, make them all well,
Then we'll rage and roar!
You better heed us, You will still need us
When we're ninety-four!

You'll Never Talk Alone
“You'll Never Walk Alone” by Rodgers & Hammerstein
When you talk on the phone
Keep your chin up high
And look for the bug in your room.
At the end of the line
Is a government spy,
Which at least
It is wise to assume.
Talk on to your friends,
Talk on making plans,
Though your every word is known…
Talk on, talk on, with peace in your heart
And you'll never talk alone!
You'll never talk alone.
When you check out a book,
If it's slightly left,
You may soon find yourself in a pen
In Guantanamo or Bulgaria,
And you'll never be heard from again.
Read on, learn the truth
Just because you are free,
And your mind is still your own.
Read on, read on, with peace in your heart--
And you'll never read alone.
You'll never read alone!
When you march down a street
With courageous friends
And you call out for peace coast to coast
Someone's making a list--It ain't Santa Claus--
But he knows who you are, and you're toast!
March on, all good folks,
March on, banners high
As the seeds of peace are sown;
March on, march on with hope in your heart
And you'll never march alone!
You'll never march alone!
