People Against Chemical Tresspass
Signature gatherers needed! Get a viable pesticide ordinance on the ballot. Residents need protection from dangerous pesticides that sickened hundreds in 2007. The California Division of Food and Agriculture has approved spraying as well as other methods, so there is really nothing stopping them now. Email us at PACT.ordinance@gmail.com to volunteer to gather signatures in Santa Cruz.
Registration is now open for the Jane Addams Peace Camp, a one-week day camp where we foster an understanding of peace and justice through art, music, cooperative games, drama, stories and discussion. We use Non-Violent Communication concepts to learn peaceful strategies to meet our needs. This is our fourteenth year of Peace Camp here in Santa Cruz and is part of a peace camp movement around the world.
Peace Camp will be held at the beautiful rural Orchard School in Aptos, from Monday August 2nd to Friday August 6th, 9a.m. - 3 p.m., for girls and boys entering grades 1-6, and youth leaders ages 12 - 17. [This year the Youth Leader Program will also have a sleep-away retreat at the end of June; June 1st is the deadline for that program.] Campers will spend part of their day in small groups by age, part of the day self-selecting from a variety of activity choices, and part of the day with the entire camp. There will be a staff of experienced counselors and volunteers; parents are welcome to participate by helping with transportation, cooking, and arts and crafts.
Cost for the week will be $150, which includes all supplies, snack and lunch; scholarships are available by request. For more information email: glitsky@aol.com or call Gaby Litsky at 462-9023.
